Brush Bash - February 4, 2012 9am
Post Event Wrap Up
It took me a week to recover from Brush Bash 2012, but it hurt so good. How 'bout you?
The Bash was another gigantic success! About 50 volunteers and 20 community service workers got the job done. According to Dale Taylor of the City of Fort Worth, 23 big trucks full of brush (326 yards) were hauled to the composting/mulching facility.
We had volunteers from all walks of life from professionals, retired folks, Boy Scouts and students from TCU and Texas Wesleyan University. Ages ranged from 6 years to past 70, including many new faces. Everyone worked hard despite a chilly north wind, steep hills and that @$#%&*! privet.
Result: Improved, unobstructed, panoramic views from atop the best wildflower viewing area in north Texas. The cleared areas will allow the wildflowers and native grasses to expand around the hill. Removal of this material is at the the core of the Master Plan for restoring Tandy Hills prairie.
Note: It is not the goal of FOTHNA to remove all the trees from Tandy Hills. Trees are a natural and desirable part of Tandy Hills in specific locations such as, drainages and bottomland. We are attempting to restore sections of the prairie where trees, bushes and invasive species are shading out the more desirable and increasingly rare, native wildflowers and grasses.
Thanks to everyone who helped us, "Keep it like it was."
