Attention: Science Nerds, Nature Lovers, Adventurers, Families, and Other Folks!

We are documenting all living species at Tandy Hills Natural Area over a continuous 36 hour time period! Scientists and naturalists from across Texas will lead and supervise photo documentation and data collection. You are invited to make your own contributions via the iNaturalist web app while you explore the biodiversity of this 160-acre urban prairie, just east of downtown. Visit the HQ Field tent for orientation.

To prepare for this event, we'll be doing a few BioBlitz trainings. The next will be on Monday, April 11, from 6:30 to around 8:30 at Tandy Hills Natural Area. Essentially, we will be going over how to use iNaturalist to document organisms through the apps and with a camera and the website. This training is for everyone who is interested in learning how to use the app.

What stirs in the night at Tandy Hills? How about some really amazing and unique moths?!? Believe it or not, there is a tremendous diversity of moths in the metroplex. These nocturnal insects have amazing patterns and colors, but special lights are needed to fully attract and appreciate them. We’ll be setting up some moth lights and moth sheets to entice the nocturnal bugs to visit for everyone to see. Bring a flashlight and a camera to document some of the neat flyers as well. Come and be a moth-er at Tandy Hills from sunset until around midnight!

Wildflower Tours by Master Naturalists as groups form. Tandy Hills is known as The Best Place to See Wildflowers in North Texas and the 2016 is sure to be stunning. Walking tours organized by the Google of Wildflowers, Suzanne Tuttle, of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge and led by Master Naturalist volunteers will entertain and surprise you. Guided hikes begin as groups form, regularly from 11 am until 4 pm.
