Texas Wesleyan University hosts DFW Urban Biologists for iNaturalist training

Texas Wesleyan University is collaborating with the Friends of Tandy Hills to inventory the biological diversity at Tandy Hills Natural Area (THNA).  This inventory will take place on Earth Day, April 23 and 24, 2016.  Experts and volunteers will congregate to document – inventory and describe – the native plant and animal life found at Tandy Hills Natural Area.  Inventory and description is aided by a mobile app called iNaturalist.  iNaturalist will document, with georeferenced photographs and sound recordings, all the biota in Tandy Hills.

Join us on March 10th at 12:15pm in Lou’s Place – 1204 Wesleyan St, Fort Worth –  for iNaturalist training in preparation for Earth Day.  Sam Kieschnick and Rachel Richter, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Urban Biologists - will lead the training thus enabling citizen science to continue to thrive in North Central Texas.  Volunteers participating in the Earth Day BioBlitz at THAN, sponsored by a Conservation License Plate grant from TPWD, will use iNaturalist to document the biological diversity found there.  Thirty-five experts will participate in this intensive inventory of life, volunteers will assist in documenting this diversity on April 22 and 23, 2016

This BioBlitz will inventory the common, the rare, the endemic, and the threatened plants and animals at Tandy Hills Natural Area.  The inventory, once posted to INaturalist’s scientific data repositories, will facilitate comment and confirmation by fellow naturalists.  The scientific data amassed during the upcoming BioBlitz will help stakeholders manage THNA’s biological diversity in perpetuity.
